Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Nairobi

Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Johnsteps Safaris and transferred to your hotel in Nairobi.

Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the hotel after your journey or enjoy a short orientation about your upcoming safari adventure. Your guide will brief you on the itinerary and answer any questions you may have before the tour begins.

Nairobi, Kenya's vibrant capital city, serves as the gateway to East Africa's most spectacular wildlife destinations. The city offers a unique blend of modern urban life, rich cultural heritage, and remarkable natural attractions.

Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, preparing for the exciting safari experiences that await in the coming days.

Day 2

NairoNational Park & Giraffe Centre

After an early breakfast, depart for NairoNational Park for a morning game drive. Situated just outside Kenya's capital city, this remarkable park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, cheetahs, and numerous bird species. The unique backdrop of Nairobi's skyline makes this one of the most distinctive wildlife experiences in Africa.

After the game drive, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before proceeding to the Giraffe Centre. Here, you will have the opportunity to meet and feed the endangered Rothschild's giraffes while learning about ongoing conservation efforts aimed at protecting these magnificent animals.

Spend the afternoon enjoying close encounters with the giraffes and exploring the educational exhibits at the centre. Later, return to your hotel for relaxation and preparation for the next stage of your safari.

Day 3

Nairobi – Lake Naivasha – Hell's Gate National Park

After breakfast, depart Nairobi and travel through the scenic Great Rift Valley towards Lake Naivasha. Along the way, stop at a viewpoint to admire the spectacular landscapes and capture memorable photographs of one of Africa's most remarkable geological features.

Upon arrival at Lake Naivasha, enjoy a relaxing boat ride across the freshwater lake, famous for its large population of hippos and abundant birdlife. Keep an eye out for African fish eagles, cormorants, kingfishers, and other water birds that thrive in this beautiful ecosystem.

After the boat excursion, proceed to Hell's Gate National Park, one of Kenya's most unique parks. Unlike most national parks, Hell's Gate can be explored on foot or by bicycle, allowing you to experience nature up close. Ride or walk among zebras, giraffes, gazelles, impalas, and buffaloes while surrounded by dramatic cliffs, deep gorges, and fascinating volcanic formations.

Day 4

Lake Naivasha – Maasai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, depart Lake Naivasha and begin your journey to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. Drive through the scenic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, passing traditional farmlands and rolling hills as you make your way toward Kenya’s premier wildlife destination.

You will arrive in Maasai Mara in time for lunch at your lodge or camp, followed by a short rest. In the afternoon, head out for your first exciting game drive in the reserve. Maasai Mara is renowned for its exceptional wildlife density and offers excellent chances to spot the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino—along with countless other species such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and antelopes.

As the sun sets over the vast savannah plains, return to your accommodation for dinner and relaxation under the African night sky.

Day 5

Full-Day Maasai Mara Safari & Maasai Cultural Visit

Today is dedicated to a full exploration of the iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve. After an early breakfast, depart with packed lunch for a full-day game drive across the vast savannah plains. This is one of the best opportunities to encounter Africa’s most famous wildlife in their natural habitat, including lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, and large herds of antelopes and wildebeests.

Depending on the season, you may witness the spectacular Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains in search of fresh grazing, often closely followed by predators.

In the afternoon, visit a traditional Maasai village, where you will be welcomed by the local community. Learn about their unique culture, traditions, and way of life, including their distinctive clothing, traditional homesteads (manyattas), dances, and customs that have been preserved for generations.

After this cultural experience, continue with a short evening game drive as you return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6

Maasai Mara – Nairobi – Departure

After an early breakfast, check out from your lodge and begin your journey back to Nairobi. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley, with optional short stops along the way for photos and refreshments.

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be dropped off at your hotel or transferred directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your onward flight, depending on your travel schedule.

This marks the end of your unforgettable 6-day safari adventure through Kenya’s most iconic destinations. You will leave with lasting memories of incredible wildlife encounters, breathtaking landscapes, and meaningful cultural experiences.

This safari involves early morning departures and long driving distances between destinations

Game drives are conducted in a 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof for optimal wildlife viewing and photography

Accommodation is subject to availability and may be replaced with similar lodges or tented camps of the same standard

Park fees and government taxes are subject to change without prior notice from park authorities

Travelers are advised to carry valid identification documents (passport required for park entry in some cases)

Visa requirements: All international travelers entering Kenya must have a valid visa unless they are from visa-exempt countries. Most visitors can apply for an eVisa online before arrival through the official Kenyan eVisa portal. It is recommended to apply in advance to avoid delays at the airport. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and have at least one blank page for stamping.

A moderate level of fitness is recommended, especially for activities in Hell’s Gate National Park (cycling/walking optional)

Weather conditions can vary; warm clothing for early mornings and light clothing for daytime is recommended

Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are strongly advised

All safari vehicles are shared or private depending on the booking option chosen
